CARNIVOROUS PLANTS
For years now I have tried my hand at raising carnivorous plants. Whenever I was in the local Wal-Mart or Home Depot and they had Venus Fly Traps I always had to grab one and see if I would have better luck raising them than last time. I always followed the directions included with the plant but they always withered and died within a couple of months. Then...these stores started carrying other species of carnivorous plants...like Sundews, Pitcher Plants, Cobra Plants and Butterworts. I was skeptical though as far as my luck was and I went and bought this book:
This book, THE SAVAGE GARDEN by Peter D'Amato, became my bible and soon I was raising these fascinating plants successfully! I then started looking online and at places like eBay for some of the more exciting species and luckily I came across a company called SARRACENIA NORTHWEST out of Eagle Creek, Oregon. Instantly I was drawn to this site's design as well as their variety of plants. I tried my luck and ordered some plants as well as their e-Book, "SECRETS TO GROWING BEAUTIFUL CARNIVOROUS PLANTS FOR YOUR HOME AND GARDEN". The order was not only shipped super fast but the quality of the plants left me breathless! It was like coming
down and opening presents on Christmas. Each plant was individually packaged with extreme care. As each plant was taken out immediately you knew that they were grown with ALOT of care by people with alot of knowledge. I have been hooked on this company since! The website features ALOT of information on each species of plant that they sell and they have alot of free caresheets. Jacob Farin and Jeff Dallas care alot about what they sell and they want nothing more than for you to succeed with these plants too. I have e-mailed them with questions not covered in their e-Book and they always get back to me quickly and go out of their way to accomodate my needs.
Cephalotus follicularis
Nepenthes maxima
If you are into carnivorous plants then you have to check this site out. There is alot of useful information there as well as alot of rare plants, many not found from other suppliers. No matter what your preference (Cephalotus, Dionaea, Drosera, Heliamphora, Nepenthes, Pinguicula, Sarracenia, or Ultricularia) these guys have them all (and if they are not in stock they list dates of when they will be back in stock!).
Here you can sign up for their monthly newsletter, enter for their free carnivorous plant giveaways or even take advantage of their carnivorous plants for a nickel (with qualifying plant purchases). You can even order soil mixtures from them specific to the plants you order so when it comes time to replant your plants! I have ordered 3 times now and every order has always come in better than could be expected. I would be very surprised that if after ordering from these guys that you didn't order again!
SARRACENIA NORTHWEST is now my sole supplier for my carnivorous plants.
Check'em out - you'll be glad you did!!!
